Alice Stinson Obituary

Mrs. Alice Nelson Stinson

The Woman With the Golden Singing Voice

Alice Nelson Stinson was born May 21, 1938, to the late Gabe Sr. and Ardelia (Johnson) Nelson, Longview, TX, one of ten children.  She was a Daddy’s girl, her nickname was “Sister” and what a sister she was, to all her siblings.

Alice was a Christian, and accepted Jesus at an early age.  She was a member of Pleasant Hill CME Church, Longview, TX, where she sang in the choir and held various offices and served in various Auxiliaries, such as, Church Secretary, Missionary President, Choir President and Church Musician.

Alice attended Pleasant Hill Schools, and was a very gifted student in her studies.  She also studied and graduated from Continental Academy School of Learning.

She worked for the Longview Independent School District in the Cafeteria, at Forrest Park and Judson Middle Schools, until retirement.

Mrs. Stinson was anointed by God with a talent to sing, and grew up singing Gospel Music all over East Texas, where she was well known.  Her style of singing was similar to that of Aretha Franklin, who was a big influence in the type of songster she would become.  At one point she was offered a Professional Contract to become a Recording Artist, but declined for the sake of focusing on being a wife, a mother, and spending time with her family.

She met the Love of her Life while attending Pleasant Hill School, Mr. D.C. Stinson, who preceded her in death (2018), they were married 65 Years.  To this Union, four children were born:  Ernest C. Stinson, Betty L. Stinson Borens (Delbert), Sandra D. Stinson, and Travis L. Stinson (Bernita); Twelve (12) Grandchildren. Thirty (30) Great Grandchildren, Fifteen (15) Great-Great Grandchildren.

Mrs. Alice Stinson departed this life September 1, 2023.  She leaves one sister to life, Veola Riggins, of Longview, TX.  Siblings who preceded her in death: Ressie Bridges, Pearlie Jackson, Iris Willis, Gabe Nelson Jr., John Henry Nelson, Felton Nelson, Margret Brown, and Corine Ingram.

Loving memories will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; sister, and a host of nieces and nephews.
