Pastor Anderson Jones, Jr., affectionately referred to as “A.J.” by close family and friends, was born on August 5, 1970 to the parentage of the late Anderson Jones, Sr. and Annie Lois Fields Jones. In addition to his father, his maternal grandparents, Leroy and Mable Dean Fields, and paternal grandparents, Floyd and Ruth Jones preceded him in death.
Pastor Jones graduated from New Diana High School where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Upon graduation, he attended Kilgore College. He was gainfully employed with Eastman Chemical Company (Texas Eastman) for 29 years.
Pastor Jones accepted the call to preach God’s Holy word in the year of 1999, under the leadership of Dr. Timothy James Brown at the Golden Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He served there as associate minister. By the moving of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Jones and his family were led to continue their service at the Galilee Baptist Church of Longview under the leadership of Pastor J.B. Dunlap. In 2006, at Galilee, Pastor Jones influenced the lives of many young people by serving as the Youth Pastor. He was motivated by the word of God that states in Matthew 19:14, “But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.” As the Holy Spirit continued to move in the life of Pastor Jones, he answered the call to serve at the Mason Springs Baptist church as the proud pastor of a loving group of worshippers for 15 years. At Mason Springs, “Everybody is Somebody.”
Pastor Jones will forever be remembered as a family man; the Priest, Provider, and Protector of his home. He was a devoted son and brother. He lived his life fully as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Perhaps one of his greatest honors in life was to be called “Pee-Paw”.
Pastor Jones was truly a man after God’s own heart as demonstrated in his humility, dynamic and powerful preaching, and practical teaching styles. In addition to his church responsibilities, Pastor Jones has served in our community as a volunteer at schools, mentor, and Junior Achievement volunteer for Longview Independent School District. Pastor Jones also served his community as a city councilman for the City of Lakeport.
Pastor Jones’ life will always be cherished by his soul mate of 30 years, Carolyn Ann Jones. Because of the blessings of our God, his legacy will continually live on through his 3 children: One son: Chauncy (Brittany) Jones of Longview; Two daughters: La’Raven (Eric) Mitchell of Bossier City, LA and Matayia Jones of Longview; Seven grandchildren: Bryson, Layla, Kylie, Makenlie, Londyn, Chauncy II, and Eric Jr.; Mother: Annie Lois Jones; Two brothers: Quintin (Tammy) Jones of New Diana and Chris Carter of Dallas; Two sisters: Latonya Parks of Dallas and Sonya Caldwell of Denton and a host of relatives and friends.
