Barbara Johnson Obituary

Barbara Jean Montgomery Johnson was born on May 22, 1940 to the union of Margaret Sherow and Harold Montgomery Jr.

She was welcomed and well-loved from the beginning and often shared stories of growing up under the hot Texas sun and the deep red clay that covered everything as she, her brother and her cousins played and toiled around the “Hickanut” tree.

She spent her early childhood in the close-knit community of Tatum. With time, she and her family were drawn to the new opportunities offered in Southern California and they moved.  Among the many new things she acquired in California, she acquired a bouncing baby sister who was 10 years younger.  A part of her never left the pine trees of East Texas as evidenced by her return many years later.

She graduated from Compton High School. Immediately following graduation, she was proud to join the US Army and served her country valiantly. Of her many accomplishments those that she was most proud of included graduating from Charles Drew as a Physician’s Assistant. She was courageous, fiercely intelligent and inquisitive. For her, life was a great gift that was meant to be fully explored and limits were meant to be challenged. She loved with an open heart and an open hand. Her beautiful smile, kind words and confident being will be forever missed.

She is survived by her daughters Brenda, Terri, Randi (Edwina) and Kelli, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, numerous extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.

Her sincere faith in Christ began as a seed planted early in life and flourished over the years.  She is at eternal rest with her King. Rest well our forever queen. Love you forever.
