Bennie Duckett Obituary

Bennie Duckett born Bennie Roberson, well known in the East Texas area as “Frog” was born June 7, 1933, in Rusk County, Texas to Bessie Roberson and Bennie Morton.

He spent his childhood years living with his grandparents, aunts and uncles in the Harris Chapel and New Hope communities. He attended school in Harris Chapel until the 6th grade when he left to live with his mother and a man named Charlie Duckett in the Dallas area. It was during that time that formal documents showed his name to be Bennie Duckett.

Bennie married Gussie Lee Jackson during his teenage years and one child, Bennie Lee Duckett, was born of that marriage. The two soon divorced and Bennie had another child named Vickie Wilkes (deceased).

In 1963, Bennie married JoAnn Thurmond, and five children were born of that marriage, Tony, Kris Ann, Karen Kay, Herron Kent, and Marcus Keith.

Bennie obeyed the gospel of Christ in his 60s and never looked back. His transformation from sinner to saint was admirable.

After JoAnn passed in 1997, Bennie was married to Lou Owens for a short period of time. In 2019, Bennie married Lynn Roshell. While his health allowed, they traveled, visited many sister churches in the area, and spent time with family. It was during this time that he discovered his father ’s side of the family, and learned that he had a sister, ironically named JoAnn! He met his nephew, Wayne Smith. He was very happy to have made this connection.

Bennie transitioned from this earthly life on Thursday, March 23, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Lynn; children, Bennie Lee Duckett (Ruthie), Kelvin Thurmond (stepson), Tony Duckett (Vania), Kris Jackson (Roy), Karen Ramos (John), Heron Kent Duckett, Marcus Keith Duckett (Karen), 12 grandchildren, Thurmond (stepson), Tony Duckett (Vania), Kris Jackson (Roy), Karen Ramos (John), Heron Kent Duckett, Marcus Keith Duckett (Karen), 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 17 great, great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends
