Boyce Orvid Jones, born to the Reverend Whaley A. Jones and wife Susie V. Sneed Jones on May 21, 1929. He grew up in the township of Longview, Texas and he attended the public schools there graduating in 1946.

He began his college experience at Prairie View and Texas College, completing his education at University of Rochester and Michigan State. He proudly served in the United States Army. His teaching experiences began after his marriage to M. Christian.

He and Muriel bore two daughters Sheryl J. Gregg and Dionne Jones Canida of Longview. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and brother. He leaves his loving wife, Muriel, his two daughters, Sheryl and Dionne, grandchildren Darami Thompson of Indiana, Meisha Snoddy of Longview, Devin Gregg and wife Amber of De Soto, Texas, Frederick Canida, II and wife Charmaine of Houston, Najee Canida of Longview, and Kashief Canida and Bri of Beaumont, Texas. He is survived by 5 great grandchildren.
