Charlie Burns, Jr. was born on June 9, 1936, in Rusk county to Charlie W. Burns and Izora Coleman-Burns.
He grew up in Longview, TX. He Obeyed the gospel and became a member of Rollins Addition Church of Christ, at the age of 8. At Rollins, he served as a trustee and assisted with various duties.
He worked several jobs in Longview until he was employed by Atlanta Life Insurance Co. His talkative nature and charming smile made him a great asset to Atlanta Life. There he served as an agent and manager. He won many awards with the company. He retired after 28 years.
He was well known in the community for his volunteer work, voice of the Judson Blue Devils and he loved the Dallas Cowboys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gloria Edwards-Burns, whom he affectionately called “Sweet Thang.” He also leaves to cherish his memories 4 daughters: Laura Mason Pryor, Shawana J. Washington (Scottie Sr.), Kyia Burns Daniels, and Charlzetta Driver. He also leaves behind 4 sons; Chartle L. Burns, Anthony A. Burns (Jennifer), Charlie E. Burns, and Kelvin D. Burns; 2 sisters, Beulah D. Thomas (Willie) and Evelyn G. Daniels; brother, MacArthur Burns (Sarah). He also leaves 43 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to treasure his memory.
