Darron Sheppard Obituary
Darron DeRoyce Sheppard, affectionately known to many as “Big Shep,” was born on August 2, 1986, in Longview, Texas, to Stacy Darden-Sheppard and Joel Sheppard.
He attended Longview High School and later continued his education at Texas A&M University–Commerce and Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Darron dedicated his professional life to education, where he faithfully served as a teacher, coach, mentor, and role model to countless students and athletes throughout East Texas and Plano, TX. He was widely known for his humongous smile, gentle spirit, warm hugs, and unwavering faith.
At an early age, Darron accepted Christ and developed a strong spiritual foundation that continued to guide him throughout his life. Throughout the years, he remained active in ministry and fellowship through Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Church on Purpose, and Church Lyfe. He was also a proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., where he built lifelong brotherhood and continued his commitment to service, leadership, and mentorship within his community.
On October 26, 2012, Darron was united in marriage to Zanetta Smith-Sheppard, and together they shared nearly 14 years of love, partnership, and devotion. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend who deeply cherished his family and loved ones.
Above all, Darron dedicated his life to serving and uplifting others, especially the students and athletes he mentored throughout his career. He believed his purpose extended far beyond the classroom and the game — he saw every young person as someone with potential, value, and purpose. Through his guidance, discipline, encouragement, and unwavering belief in others, he helped shape not only successful students and athletes but strong, confident, and respectful individuals. Many of the lives he touched carry his lessons, wisdom, and influence with them today, a testament to the lasting impact he made on his community and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
When he was not pouring into others, Darron enjoyed being a “grill master” and singing in his church’s praise team. More than anything, he treasured spending time with those he loved most.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Pashion and Virgil Darden, and Dorothy Williams.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Zanetta Smith-Sheppard; his children, Zoe, Xaryus, Auburn, and Braxton; his mother, Stacy Sheppard; his father, Joel Sheppard; his stepmother, Angelis Sheppard; his brother, Jerome Collins; along with a host of relatives, fraternity brothers, former students, athletes, colleagues, and dear friends.
Darron DeRoyce Sheppard departed this earthly life on May 9, 2026, at the age of 39.
Though he will be deeply missed, his love, wisdom, faith, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Per the family’s request there will be no public viewing until after the Eulogy.
