Ellis William Fagan was born on Wednesday, March 5, 1947, to his parents Erie Fagan and Annie Dot Fagan in Longview, Texas.
At an early age Ellis made the profound decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at East Cotton Street Church of Christ. He later began attending Woodland Hill Church of Christ, where he was a devoted and faithful member. After moving to Marshall, Texas, he and his wife, Leslie, embarked on an 8-year spiritual journey at Word of God Ministries.
Ellis graduated from Mary C. Womack High School's Class of 1966, embarking on a journey of courage and selflessness. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to serving his country. He bravely served two tours in the Vietnam War, earning the esteemed rank of Sergeant E-5. His heroic actions saved his entire platoon when he fearlessly disarmed a live bomb, putting his life at risk and inspiring his fellow soldiers with his remarkable valor.
Ellis had a profoundly impactful 10-year tenure at Lone Star Steel, inspiring greatness in all aspects. He also had a remarkably fulfilling 5-year stint at Union Pacific Railroad. After leaving the railroad, he became floor manager for several furniture stores across the Shreveport and Longview areas. He retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering dedication and perseverance.
Upon retirement, Ellis discovered his true calling as a horticulturist, unlocking a passion that brought him immense joy. He skillfully crafted and styled exquisite miniature bonsai trees, showcasing his remarkable talent. He built an impressive collection of rare trees and developed innovative techniques that earned him recognition. As an active member of the Longview and Shreveport Bonsai societies, Ellis enthusiastically attended and led workshops, constantly refining his skills as a Bonsai master. Ellis found serenity working in his bonsai garden, dedicating hours to perfecting his haven.
In 2016, he met and married his soulmate, Leslie Fagan, and they embarked on a new journey together, moving from Longview to Marshall, Texas, where they reveled in retirement, exploration, and cherished family moments.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and one brother: Ernest John Fagan.
