Gypsy Jones was born in Hallsville (Harrison County) TX on September 7, 1927 to the parentage of Finis and Tessie Houston Smith.
She attended Longview Public Schools and Bishop College. She accepted Christ at an early age at Cartersville Church of Christ in Hallsville, TX, then later became a member of the East Cotton Street Church of Christ in Longview TX. She was a member of East Cotton Street Singing Sisters. She later moved to West Loop 281 Church of Christ. She loved her church family. She was a faithful member until a decline in health. She was known as a great cook, especially her cakes and pies.
She united in holy matrimony to the late Gaddie D. Jones on March 22, 1951. She worked for the Burrough Family as a housekeeper and later was a sales clerk at Longview Hardware and finally opened a Day Care in her home for several years.
Gypsy was preceded in death by children, Darrell W. Jones, Ronnie Cotton, Donald Smith Sr., and Lee Ester Davis; daughter in law, Ruby Jones; son in law, Larry Thomas; and siblings, Augusta Smith, Roosevelt Johnny Smith and S.Q. Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, 2 sons, Larry Jones of Hallsville TX and Michael Smith of Bonham, TX; 2 daughters, Janice Brooks and Sandra Thomas, both of Longview TX; 1 daughter in law, Janet Jones of Longview TX; 2 brothers, Harris Rayburn Smith (Sallie) of Hoodsport, WA and Simmie D. Collins (Louise) of San Diego, CA; 11 grandchildren, Demetria Jones, Dalton Brooks, Titus Jones, AlDarian Davis, Adrianette Jones, Donald Smith Jr., Shamanique Walker, Shavon Brooks, Larry George Jr., Ashley Jones and Lacresha Cotton; 7 great-grandchildren, DeKarian Brooks, LaDeja George, Devin Brooks, Sa'Niya Jones, AlDarian Davis and Anthony Harnage; 3 sisters in law, Lizzie Willis, Naomi Jones and Billie Jones; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
