To know her was to love her or her for her unconditionally love toward so many family members and friends she made feel special. She was known as "Aunt Sis to everyone she met even if you were related to her or not. In her lifetime of 100 years, she has always treated everyone with a kind heart and willingness to help everyone.
This beautiful person gained her wings on Saturday, November 20, 2021. She was the baby girl born to Pleas Walker and Lena Powell-Walker on April 16, 1921 in Mendenhall, Mississippi. She attended school in the Mendenhall Community during her young life. She joined church at a very earl age and later left Mississippi for Texas where she met her husband, James "Chippie" Barnes. During their 20 year union, they adopted Pete Barnes and Diana Barnes.
Galilee Baptist Church has been her church home for over 60 plus years. With her being blessed to see her 100th birthday, she has been preceded in death by her parents, 15 siblings, her beloved god-son Brian Robertson and many close relatives and friends. But most recent, she was preceded in death by her son Pete Barnes and granddaughter Angela Caldwell.
Left to cherish her many memories are: daughter, Diane (Terry) Baskins; granddaughters, Brianca Baskins, Maisha Barnes, Adia (Salvo) Barnes Coppa and Candance Barnes; nieces, Margaret Chatman, Bettie Sue Butler, Sellestine McDonald, Lena Carol Gholar, Voygue Holloway; nephews, Edward (Dorothy) Earl Lockhart-Walker, Carl (Donna) Davis, Malone (Betty) Davis, Roy (Irene) Davis, Tommy (Marilyn) Walker, Dick (Debra) Walker Jr. and many great nieces, nephews, cousins, and long-time close friends.
