J. D. Beck Obituary

J.D. graced this world with his presence on October 3, 1940 to the parentage of Wilbur Beck and Isibella Williams Sloan in Carthage, Texas. He departed this earthly tabernacle on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at his home surrounded by family members.

At an early age J.D. united with the Evergreen Baptist Church in Hallsville, Texas, where he continued to worship until his death. He served as Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Deacon Board, and faithful choir member until his health declined.

J.D. was a proud graduate of the Galilee School of Hallsville. After graduating, he spent the early years as a cook at Pinecrest Country Club. He spent his career as a certified welder at Oilgear and Trinity Industries. He retired from Capacity of Longview.

J.D. married “the love of his life”, Alice Brookins on October 29, 1960. To this union three blessings were granted.

J.D. was a loving and devoted husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending church, singing, and playing dominos. His favorite pastime was fishing.

J.D. was preceded in death by his parents: Wilbur Beck & Isibella Williams Sloan; step-father: Charlie Sloan; wife: Alice Brookins-Beck; and grandson: Lloyd-Jackson Alexander Maxey.

J.D. leaves to treasure his memory daughters: Sandra Sheffield (Leo Jr.) of Round Rock, Texas and Jerelyn Maxey (Lloyd) of Hallsville, Texas; son: Joe Beck (Angelia) of Hallsville, Texas; sister; Charlene Lawton (Leon) of Dallas, Texas; brother: Willie C. Beck of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; loyal neighbor and “personal chef”: Robert Reeves; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, family, and friends whom he adored.
