James Thomas Jr. was born August 8, 1936 to the parentage of James Thomas, Sr. and Frances Harris-Thomas. James was the fourth born of ten children. He accepted Christ at an early age and was also a faithful member of Red Oak Missionary Baptist Church where he devoted his time to the Usher Board, Male Chorus and Sunday School.
He received his formal education from G. W. Carver High School Class of 1955, Karnack Independent School District. Later, he worked and retired from Letourneau and Texas Eastman Kodak 1998. James was a long-time member of the Longview Riders Club and enjoyed playing dominoes, watching football, painting cars, classic cars, horses, cooking and most of all, spending time with his family and being “PAWPAW” to everyone.
PawPaw was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Arthur B., Robert D., Willie and Eddie Thomas) and his sister, Joyce Meakins.
He leaves precious memories to be cherished by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Levanell (Parker) Thomas. His children, Clifford Parker (Liz), Patricia Thomas, Rickey T. (Barbara), Carlos Thomas (Charry), Coretta Thomas-Barnes (Johnnie), Teresa Thomas-Hawkins (Rickey H.); a god-daughter, Kevelyn Grant; brothers, Sammie Thomas and Johnny Thomas; sisters, Ola Coleman and Lula Mae Broadnax; aunt, Katie Brown; life-time friends, Eddie Isaac, Donald “Tim” Timberlake, Jake Hayward, Robert Mann, Robert Brookins Sr., George Perry, Pastor Danny E. Craig Sr. and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grands, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
