Jimmie Dorris Ervin, lovingly known as “Nanny,” passed away on September 7, 2025, in Longview, Texas, at the age of 73.
Born on October 7, 1951, in Troup, Texas, Dorris lived a life full of joy, strength, and unwavering faith. She was the beloved wife of 53 years to Larry Ervin and a devoted mother to her four children: Shunda Mapps, Jerrick Ervin (Stacie), Marisha Sammons, and Jason Ervin.
A proud and passionate fan, Dorris never missed a chance to cheer on her Dallas Cowboys or the Kilgore Bulldogs with her loving sisters. Her love for sports was only matched by her infectious laughter and love of dancing. She was always the life of the party, bringing energy and warmth wherever she went.
Dorris was a dedicated member of Faith Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, where her faith and service were a pillar of strength to her family and community.
Dorris was preceded in death by her parents, M.C. and Mary Mapps; her son, Derrick Ervin; her brother, L.B. Mapps; and her sisters Eva Lois Mapps, Lou Emma Mapps Clayton, Beverly Mills, Mary Sanders, and Sue Anderson.
Dorris leaves to cherish her loving memory her husband Larry Ervin, daughters: Shunda Mapps and Marisha Sammons, Sons: Jerrick Ervin (Stacie) and Jason Ervin. Grandchildren: Anthony Mapps, Cullen Brewster, Da’Quayvia Brewster, Darrion Sammons (Cameryn), Jerrick “Deuce” Ervin, Kaleigh Sammons, Chamya Sammons, and Christopher Ervin. Great Grandchildren: Emersyn Brewster, Hazel Sammons, and Kolbie Brewster. Sisters: Zella Medford, Neva Caldwell (Richard), Silvia Medford (Shelvie), Patrice Neal, Lisa Mapps. Brothers: M.C. Mapps (Marsha) and Roddy Mapps. Mother-in-law: Queen Ervin. Brothers-in-law: Mark Ervin (Van Lois), and Kenneth Ervin. Sister-in-law: Carolyn Lacy.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith lives on through her husband, children, and all who were blessed to know her.
