Joseph Earl Rattler was born January 29, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was the oldest son of the late Morgan and Ernestine Rattler.
While attending Longview High School, Joseph played sports and was well known for his great football skills, in which he received several scholarships. He was the Vice President of the Senior Class of 1971. After graduating high school, he married the love of his life, Phyllis Garrett, October 2, 1971. In April of 1972, he joined the United States Air Force where he was a Fuel System Specialist, Air Traffic Controller, Air Traffic Controller Instructor, and he was over the Honor Guard among others jobs. While being over the Honor Guard, he and his group of soldiers marched in the Tom Landry parade 1989. He served in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm and he was a small arms expert marksman.
After serving 21 years in the United States Air Force, Joseph retired as a Master Sergeant. He worked at the CenturyLink Center as Head Chef where he labored tirelessly for over 15 years.
Joseph truly loved his family and was a devoted friend. He was well known for his love for the Dallas Cowboys.
In June of 2019, Joseph obeyed the Gospel and was a proud member of the Russell Road Church of Christ in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving wife of 48 years, Phyllis; two daughters: Rita Smalley of Bossier City, LA, LaTanya Bell of Dallas, TX; two grandchildren: LaTrice' Bell and Brandon "Ke'Sean" Smalley; one great grandson, Aiden Smalley; three brothers: Billy Rattler, Michael Rattler, and James (Synthia) all of San Antonio, TX; a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and loving friends.
Two sisters: Bettye Coleman and Anna Rattler preceded him in death.
