Joyce Ann McLeod-Clayborn Obituary

Mrs. Joyce Ann McLeod-Clayborn was born on May 23, 1945 in Dallas, Texas and departed this life on July 15, 2021. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Anna Mae Smith and her grandmother Mrs. Pearl Davis.


Joyce worked as the housekeeping supervisor at Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas for many years before following in the family footsteps and becoming the head cook and deli manager for 27 years at Tom Thumb in Dallas, Texas. Upon retirement, Joyce relocated to Longview, Texas. Joyce loved to cook and people from near and far came to enjoy the meals she prepared. She was an avid gardener who kept her home exquisitely decorated and surrounded with beautiful flowers inside and out.


She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church in Longview, Texas.


Joyce attended school in Dallas and was a graduate of Lincoln High School.


She leaves to cherish her memories: a husband, Sam Clayborn of Longview, Texas, a daughter, Lisa Franklin and husband Rev. J.L. Franklin of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a granddaughter, Netra Ford-Colbert of Houston, Texas, a grandson, Corey Colbert of Houston, Texas, a great granddaughter, Kori Colbert of Houston, Texas, a great grandson, Neiman Colbert of Houston, Texas, step-daughters, Brenda Reed and husband, Lawrence of Palestine, Texas and Sandra Tolfree of Palestine, Texas, step-granddaughter, Wanda Martin and husband, Dean and great grandson Miles of Palestine, Texas; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
