Lonnie Mitchell Jr., a proud veteran of the United States Army, departed this life on Sunday, June 16, 2024. Born on September 4, 1948, in Harrison County, he was the son of Ola Mae Mitchell Wallace and Lonnie Mitchell Sr.
At 17, Lonnie joined the Job Corps, where he earned his welding certification. Two years later, at 19, he enlisted in the United States Army. During his service, he achieved the rank of PFCE4 and was a dedicated Vietnam veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, two Overseas Service Bars, the Expert (Rifle -14) Badge the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars the Vietnam Campaign Medal with the 1960 Device, and the Purple Heart.
Lonnie was preceded in death by his beloved mother Ola Mae Wallace· father, Lonnie Mitchell Sr.; and brother, Charles Mitchell Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory daughters: Ashanti, Denise, Kim, and Shannon; sisters: Ola, Martha and Alma; and, a host of grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
