Mrs. Margie Faye McAlister Centers was born June 1, 1943, to the late Enoch McAlister Sr. and Annie Lee Johnson McAlister.
Margie graduated from Mayflower High School, Class of 1959. She received her Bachelor’s Degree at Texas College, Teacher Certification at Wiley College, and Masters in Secondary Education at Stephen F. Austin State University.
On December 31, 1961, she married, Don Allen Centers. Together, they raised four sons and one daughter.
Mrs. Centers started her teaching career at Mayflower School, and later joined the staff at Tatum ISD, teaching Biology, Physical Science, Chemistry, Physics and Algebra. She was also the Director of Special Services, Director of Human Resources, and Director of Curriculum. She retired from Tatum ISD after 37 years.
She was a member of Zeta Phi Beta for many years. As a faithful member of Fredonia Baptist Church, Henderson, TX, she served as the church secretary, and was active in the choir and mission. She had also been a leader in auxiliaries at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Longview, TX, for many years.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy McAlister, Pastor T.L. McAlister, and Pastor A.E. McAlister.
She lives on through her devoted husband, Don Centers, and four sons, Tony Centers, of Longview, TX, Donnie Centers, of Stamps, AR, Larry Centers, of Dallas, TX, and Reggie (Anissa) Centers, of Tatum TX; one daughter, Channing Centers, of Tatum, TX; her grandchildren, Kaylon Centers, Constance Hockaday, Jordan Cotton, Brittani Youman, Larry Centers II, Tyler Centers, Adonnis Centers, Devin Centers, Sydni Centers, Grant Centers, Justice Centers, Dilan Centers, Kennedi Centers, Ania Centers, and Drake Centers; five great-grandchildren; her brothers, Enoch McAlister Jr., of Henderson, TX, Melvin McAlister, of Henderson, TX, and James (Tina) McAlister, of Henderson, TX; her sisters, Willene Daniels, of Longview, TX, Juralene Adams, of Houston, TX, Marilyn McAlister, of Longview, TX, Clara McAlister, of Houston, TX, and Erma Coleman, of Henderson, TX; sisters-in-law, Linda McAlister, of Henderson, TX, and Georgetta McAlister, of Longview, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
