On Saturday December 3, 2022, Mr. Melvin James Paris, a loving husband and father was called from his earthly labor to his heavenly reward. Melvin Paris was born November 8, 1935 to the parents of Alton and Cora Bell Paris.
He moved to Dallas from Palestine where he was employed at Sears & Roebuck as a Brake Specialist Mechanic. Later, he moved to Longview and married Edith Garrett and had two children, Kevin, and Krystle.
Melvin retired from Sears and began to utilize his trade in many things throughout his life. Melvin was self-employed running a small mechanic business out of his workshop, worked 5 years at a machine shop in White Oak, TX, and also worked as a security guard at Trinity Industries for 5 years.
Outside of his family, Melvin loved to fish, cultivate peas among other vegetables, and sold watermelons and sweet potatoes throughout the community.
Melvin was one of 14 children with 12 preceding him in death. Those to remain to cherish his loving memories are: his devoted wife, Edith Paris and their two children, Kevin and Krystle; his sons, Derrick King of Desoto, TX, Terrance Wayne Paris of Elkhart, TX; daughters, Sharon Paris and Renee Swanson of Palestine, TX; a son, Milton Paris of Elkhart, TX who preceded him in death. He leaves one sister, Reba Helen Morrison of Oceanside, California; two close and very dear nieces who were always a phone call away, Irma Levias of Duncanville, TX and Grady Paris of Houston, TX and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
