Opal Lee Horton Obituary

Opal Lee Williams was born on April 10, 1948 to Glenn O. Williams and Juanita Bradley-Guice in Tatum, TX. Opal was raised by her mother and stepfather, M. T. James Sr. She attended public school in Mayflower, Tatum, TX and graduated from Mayflower High School.

Opal was employed with Tatum I.S.D.; after many years at Tatum I.S.D. she resigned to care for her husband.

At an early age she united with Zion Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Ulice Bailey. After her union to the love of her life, Leslie B. Horton, she joined New Jerusalem Church of God In Christ, where she served as a faithful member on the usher board and in later years became the President for over 25 years. Her many other roles in the church were: Senior Mother, Noon Day Prayer Warrior and Assistant to the Pastor's Aide President. Opal was without a doubt a faithful member and worked tirelessly in the church until the VERY END!

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Mark Jr., Larry Donnell, Vandoil Williams and Jerry James.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories four sons: Darrell G. Horton (Vernita Sam), Larry L. Horton (Danielle), Rodney D. Horton (Nastascia), Leslie D. Horton; two daughters: Karol Horton-Gibson and Rhonda D. Horton; two brothers: Horace James (Helen) and Bobby Williams (Brenda); six sisters: Brenda Humphries, Lonzetta Smith (Clarence), Leila Thomas, Glennie Brown (Roy), Lula Jones (Paul), Robbie Horn (Austin); twelve grandchildren: Brianna D.
