Rhonda Doyle Horton Obituary

Rhonda D. Horton was born February 15, 1970 at 10:15pm; (the first of the twins) in Longview, Texas to the parentage of Leslie B. Horton and Opal L. Horton.  She was the fourth of six children.  She was raised by the late Annie Bell Horton “Big Momma” in Mayflower and attended school at Tatum ISD for eleven years and graduated from Christian Community Academy 13th Pulaski, Chicago, Illinois in 1987.


Shortly after returning from Chicago, Illinois she was employed at Dr. James Cotton’s General Dentistry in Longview and worked there for over 25 years.  In 2019, she became gainfully employed with Carthage Healthcare until her transition.


Her parents united her with New Jerusalem COGIC at birth under the leadership of Elder Johnnie Watkins.  She served as the Sunday School Clerk for several years; a devoted choir member for both her Church & the Carthage District; a dedicated Usher for both her Church and the Carthage District.  She was a faithful member until the end. 


She was preceded in death by her parents.


Rhonda leaves to cherish her memories; one sister, Karol Horton-Gibson, Longview, Texas; four brothers, Darrell G. Horton (Vernita “Sam”) of Henderson, Texas, Larry L. Horton (Danielle) of Longview, Texas, Rodney D. Horton (Nastascia) of Tyler, Texas and Leslie D. Horton of Tatum, Texas; seven aunts Brenda Humphries, Lonzetta (Clarence) Smith both of Houston, TX, Leila Thomas of Humble, TX, Lavell Booth of Compton, CA, Glennie (Roy) Brown, Lula (Paul) Jones, Robbie (Austin) Horn; two uncles, Horace (Helen) James of Tatum, TX, Bobby (Brenda) Williams of Henderson, TX and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
