Ruth Sebron Obituary

Ruth Hazel Sebron was born in Arcadia, Louisiana on April 20, 1929, to the late Sam and Lula Mae Scott. She received her early education at Bienville Parish training School. After her family moved to Grambling, Louisiana she attended Grambling High School where she was a member of the basketball team. She accepted Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Arcadia under Rev. Holland.

In 1948 she moved to Longview, Texas. She married Eddie Lee Shephard in 1949 and to this union four children were born. Sharon Shephard Porter, Lydell Shephard, Flynn Shephard, and Kelvin Shephard. She united with Galilee Baptist Church under the late Rev. J. T. Leake where she was a faithful member until her daughter’s health failed. She worked many years as a cook at Contessa Inn and KN Root Beer. She was preceded in death by her parents, 14 brothers and sisters, daughter Sharon, and son Lydell. Later in her life she met and married Sidney Sebron.

When Sharon was no longer able to care for herself, Hazel devoted all her time and energy to care for her daughter and her grandsons, Keith and Stephen Porter. Many years later when her son Lydell’s health failed, she cared for him as well. She loved cooking, baking and gardening, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

As Hazel got older, she required more hands-on help. This help was provided by those who loved and cherished her. Her grand-daughters Olympia Bradley and Kel’Vona Shephard, daughter-in-law Stacey Myers, grand-daughter-in-law Ashley Willis Porter, Marva Taylor, Gail Bradford, Cecilia Rodriguez, Kisha Curry and care givers Rhonda Wilson and Rose Apo.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Flynn Shephard and Kelvin Shephard (Stacey) both of Longview, TX. Two grandsons Keith Porter (Julie) of Colton, CA.; and Stephen Porter (Ashley) of Longview, TX.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
