Ruth Ann Canada Pickens began her journey in life December 31, 1936, as one of five children born to Lee Etta (Lettie) and Wilbur Canada in Beeville, Texas. Both parents and her siblings Raymond Canada, Susie King and Victoria Canada Bell preceded her in death. Her two brothers, Willie Lee Canada (Hattie) of Longview, TX and Wilbert Lee Canada (Dottie) of South Carolina.
Ruth (Ruthie) attended Solomon Coles School and Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. She worked for the Corpus Christi Texas School District as a bus driver; as a Certified Nursing Assistant with the Hearth Nursing Home; then retired in February 1990 from the Corpus Christi State School as a Patient Care Technician. In February 1990, Ruth relocated to Longview, TX to care for her elderly mom and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Clairmont Nursing Home.
Ruth accepted Christ at an early age, attended Mount Zion Baptist Church serving as an Usher faithfully. In the early 1960's in Corpus Christi, Ruth met, fell in love and married Henry Pickens, who also preceded her in death.
Ruth Ann Canada Pickens leaves six children to cherish her memory: Linda Joyce Mills, twins Geraldine and Jerry Lynn Canada, Phillip Anthony Canada, Debbie Yvonne Canada, Mary Frances Henderson (Charles); her beloved grandchildren: Derassa Canada, Curtis Canada, Belinda Adair, Laquilla Johnson (Dewayne), Larry Canada (LaTosha), Nina Garret, John Paul Canada, Nathaniel Robinson, Kevin Canada, Ieshia Canada, Rechelle Henderson, Charlene Canada, Charles Eric Henderson, Daniel Canada (KoKeitha); a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly and unconditionally.
Ruth Ann was a hard-working, God-fearing woman who enjoyed reading her bible, listening to gospel sermons, gospel music, attending church, praising God, and spending time with her grand and great-grand kids. Her family love and will miss her immensely. She has gained her wings and has received her room in one of God's many mansions, resting in heavenly eternal peace (John 14:2).
