On July 22, 2022, God called a faithful servant home to rest in His arms.
S. L. was born September 20, 1955 in Hallsville, Texas in Harrison County to S.L. and Ida Mae Darden. He attended the Galilee school system graduating in 1974. After high school, S. L. worked 9 years for Union Pacific Railroad. After leaving the railroad, S.L. owned and operated his own waste management company for over two decades.
S. L. accepted Christ at an early age, joining church at the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where he remained a faithful member until his death. You would always find him in his same seat on Sunday morning. And there was always a spot in his truck for anyone wanting to accompany him to church, which he offered quite often. S.L. knew and loved the Lord, and kept his Bible close by at all times.
S.L. was an avid reader, loved watching Westerns, going to the casino, and eating sweets (especially homemade egg pie.) On any given day, S.L. rocked his signature blue overalls, which were his favorite.
He is preceded in death by his parents S.L. and Ida Mae Darden, his sisters Joyce Helen Stoker, Carolyn Darden Rigby, Cynthia Stoker and Cheryl Bell and his brothers Stanley and Gregory Darden.
He leaves to mourn his passing: children Ardell (Kim), Stephen, Rodney, Jerome, Elijah and Sukoyya Darden; sisters, Sandra Darden Leonard, Rhonda Jordan (Byron), Trina Johnson (Darrel); brothers, Anthony and Christopher Darden (Shamaria); 19 grandchildren, several special friends and a host of other loving family members and friends.
