Mr. Sam Clayborn was born August 7, 1931 in Kilgore, TX. He was the only son out of six children born to Fred and Cleo Clayborn. He attended Fredonia Elementary School and united with Fredonia Baptist Church at an early age.
After growing up, he relocated to Dallas, TX and was employed by the Henry C. Beck Construction Group where he supervised the building of Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys; and various tall buildings in downtown Dallas, including the 50 story Reunion Tower that stands as a landmark of the Dallas Skyline.
Upon his retirement, he relocated to Longview and resumed his membership at Fredonia Baptist Church, Kilgore, TX. Being the oldest grandchild, he felt it his duty to help any of the relatives who had a need.
Sam prided himself on always having a beautiful lawn and being surround by his dogs. He credited his “Grandpa’s” for teaching him everything he knew and was able to accomplish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce Ann Clayborn; 4 sisters, Pearl Mitchell of Dallas, TX, Josie Thomas of Palm Springs, CA, Leotha Johnson and Eva Francis Hamilton of Longview, TX.
Sam leaves to cherish his memories: his sister, Mattie Jones, Longview, TX; 4 daughters, Brenda (Lawrence) Reed of Palestine, TX, Sandra Tolefree of Palestine, TX, Lisa (Rev. J.L.) Franklin of Lake Charles, LA, Jasmine (Eric) Hospkins of Midlothian, TX; grandchildren, Wanda Martin, Netra Ford-Colbert, Shondra Hatton, Natasha Williams, Crystal Gonzales, Kimberly Cumby, Brailon Cook, Jarren Cook, Morgan Bush, Adison Bush; grandchildren, Miles Martin, Kori Colbert, Neiman Colbert plus 10 others and 4 great-grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his nephews, nieces and friends who loved him. His faith pet and companion, Chase Clayborn will miss him dearly.
